The Early Bird

a short story with idioms, by Cathy

I have been an early bird for ages, waking and getting up at cockcrow. Everything is so silent and peaceful at dawn. You can also hear the early blackbirds' calls and sometimes enjoy their melodious whistling warbles. I feel it the best time to get a lot of physical and spiritual energy. And besides, isn’t it the early bird that catches the worm?

I hate the mornings when I have to stay in bed later than usual just because I could not  sleep a wink the night before! I am all at sea then! It sometimes happens when my young neighbours keep talking at the top of their voices all night long during their record-breaking birthday parties. But what else to do than to have a lie-in when you do not feel as fit as a fiddle? Not always an easy task, is it, to be an early bird?!

After reading this, Elisabeth and Sylvie responded (click).
